General Appearance

Small size, elipometric and sub-brevilineal, variable coat dominating tricolour.
Aptitude: Ancestrally dedicated to the traditional hunting of the water rat, rabbits and moles. Besides, he is a guard dog for his capacity to warn by means of the bark. Currently, he is also companion dog.

Wide of the skull/length of the skull: 1/1.
Length of the face/length of the skull: 3/5.
Heigth at the wither/longitudinal diameter: 4/3.


Behaviour / Temperament

Lively, happy and a bit nervous character. Affectionate and faithful, although he does not like strangers. Brave, not only in hunting but also in the defence of his owners’ properties. He learns fast.


Well proportioned with respect to the body.


Skull: Cranio-facial axes clearly convergent.
Stop: Marked.


Face: Narrow.
Nose: Black and small.
Lips: Thin, with no marked corner of the mouth.
Teeth: White, right set and scissor bite.
Eyes: Medium, oval and little protruding. Brown iris.
Eyelids: Thin and close to the eye.
Ears: Upright, medium size (10 cm), triangular, high set.



Cylindrical, vigorous and agile, with developed muscles. Lacking dewlap.



In general: Quadrangular. Steady and well marked musculature.
Wither: Little pronounced, at the same height as the croup.
Dorsal-lumbar line: Straight.
Croup: Short and slightly descending.
Chest: Wide, strong and muscled.
Rib cage: Arched.
Belly: Tucked up.


Cropped without respecting any vertebra or just the first. There are tailless dogs.




In general: Very muscled and perfectly vertical. Straight and parallel.
Arm: Strong and sturdy.
Forearm: Long and thin, but with solid bones.
Elbows: Neither separated from nor too tight to the chest.
Feet: "Harefeet". Resistant nails and plantar pads. Presence of dewclaws.


In general: Very muscled and perfectly vertical. Very powerful, with very marked angulations and good musculature, which contribute to his great capacity for long jumps.
Hock joint: Pronounced, with well defined tendons.
Feet, nails and pads: The same as the forequarters. Absence of dewclaws.
Movements: Fast and graceful, being good at jumping.

Fast and graceful, being good at jumping.



Very thin and close to the body.



Hair: Thin and short, no longer than 2 cm.

Colour: Spotted coats dominate over the uniform ones. Among the spotted coats the most abundant is the tricolour (black-tan with white spots), followed by black-tan. It can also be seen the black-white, cinnamon-white, chocolate-tan and chocolate-white coats. Within the uniform coats, it can be seen the cinnamon and the black ones.


Size and weight

Height at the wither:
Males: 30 to 40 cm, the ideal is 36 cm.
Females: 29 to 38 cm, the ideal is 33 cm.
In both sexes it is tolerated one cm more or less of the limit of the size, only if the dog is harmonious and without defects.

Males and females: 4 to 8 Kg.



Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault. There are two types:

Slight faults

  • Rosy nose or with dispigmented spots.
  • Elongated harmonious shape.
  • Shy and coward character.

Serious faults

  • Monorquids or cryptorquids.
  • Albinism.
  • Upper and lower prognathism.
  • Not scissor bite.
  • Missing more than 2 PM.
  • Not completely upright ears.
  • Presence of rear dewclaws.
  • Long and/or curly hair.
  • Any coat different from the standard.

Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities shall be disqualified.


N.B.: Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
